Jung-ah Ellen Shim is a Korean artist who works with drawing, object installation and performance. She finished undergraduate at Parsons School and master's degree at Pratt Institute in New York and published her doctoral thesis at Hongik University in Korea entitled ‘Broken Beauty’. Her installation is based on poetic objects and storytelling and also accompanied by performances in some situations. Her drawing shows unique features such as burning with an electric iron and using delicate embroidery techniques.

She was invited to Busan Biennale in 2012 and showed Room of Memory: Homage to Poet Yun Dong-ju in an abandoned space at Busan Jin Station. This work shows her theme is expanding from religious and literary storytelling to the painful history of Korea.
Her latest works are dealing with ‘comfort women’ (Japanese military sexual slavery) problem, that express the beautiful presence of 'comfort women' grandmothers who gone through severe pain and now exist as human right activist.
She is currently working as a member of ‘Art Ze-An’, a group that asks questions about the fundamental problems embedded in society and proposes healing and restoration in the language of the arts, and also a group of christian artists called ‘Art & Mission’.

그녀의 최근작들은 “일본군 위안부” 문제에 대해 다룬다. 이 작품들은 극심한 고통을 통과한 후 현재 인권운동가로 활동하고 계시는 위안부 할머니들의 아름다운 존재감에 대해 표현한다. 그녀는 현재 사회의 근원적 문제들에 대해 질문을 던지고 예술의 언어를 사용하여 치유와 회복의 길을 제시하는 그룹인 “아트제안”, 기독교 예술인 그룹인 "Art&Mission", "한국기독교시각예술포럼(Ch-포럼)"의 일원으로 활동하고 있다.
